Leírás:

The fragmentation of a specimen undergoes several successive processes. First the sample is fragmented by planes which cuts the object into simple polyhedra. When new cut planes appear they will not cut through the whole system since the already existing cut planes allow enough movement to prevent this. This secondary fragmentation may still only produce simple polyhedra. Our preliminary studies suggest that the two processes have similar but a little different outcome on measurables like, number of stable points, number of faces of the polyhedra, etc. The question we would like to address is that if it is possible to tell the two processes apart from the data? Can one tell which process was the dominant in a given process. We have data from explosions as well as hammering fragmentations. Definetely the two processes are different though the results are also very similar. The task of the candidate is to develop a model to answer the above questions.

The candidate will have the possibility to join a very active research group with regular interesting group seminars of the morphonynamics group.
