The candidate should have a university knowledge of physics, mathematics and programming. The candidate should have a critical thinking and be motivated to learn how things work.
By exciting charge carriers in the metal-semiconductor-metal interface using ultrafast laser pulses it is possible to create current pulses with duration of femtoseconds. The direction of these current pulses is sensitive to the phase of the electric field of a laser pulse. Therefore, a laser phase detector in form of a microchip can be made based on this phenomenon.
In this research topic the student would contribute on a design of a phase-scanning microchip for characterization of ultrafast laser oscillator pulses. The student would computationally model the generation of the phase dependent signal in the microchip illuminated with strong-field laser pulses. The modelling can be confronted with real measured data. There is an opportunity for the student to participate in the experimental part of the research as well.
