A kidolgozandó feladat címe: Petahertz sampling of optical waveforms in solid targets
A téma rövid leírása, a megoldandó legfontosabb feladatok felsorolása:

Only two decades ago a method was demonstrated that allowed to unambiguously trace the shape of the electric field of short laser pulses. The method is based on the ionization of gases with attosecond XUV pulses and subsequent steering of electrons with laser field to be sampled. The duration of one period of the sampled field can be as low as few femtoseconds, that is why the method is called petahertz sampling. This method opened up new possibilities in laser technology and catalyzed new experimental methods in physics. However, laser pulses of high energy and rather complex experimental conditions are required for such a method. Thanks to advances in the optical generation of transient currents in solids, it is now possible to substitute the gas targets for more compact solid ones in the method of petahertz sampling, which will make the method accessible to more compact laser systems.

The goal of the proposed experimental thesis topic is to explore the conditions for transient currents in solid targets and use them to perform a petahertz sampling of laser oscillator pulses.

The candidate will have an opportunity to familiarize with state-of-the-art technology and will receive an intensive training in the laser technology, beam delivery, as well as signal acquisition and processing. Enthusiasm in physics and science required. Experience with work in a physics laboratory is an advantage, but not required.
